Skills, you don't feel much different from someone who's trained to someone who's not. Your shit saves don't improve while you level unless you increase the corresponding stat, so they become more a liability. My problem with the saves is the same problem I have as with this D&D Retroclone called Castles & Crusades. I really don't like how saves and skills work in 5e. I'll still play as Ranger since it's my favorite class, but damn it's frustrating to try to go out of my way to make those abilities useful. Their not-combat abilities are garbage and done better by other classes. 5e is not as fast as B/X or AD&D(haven't played enough 3e/PF games irl to make a judgement on speed) but it's still a lot faster then 4e.įeats usually have more interesting effects then just +1 AC or +1 Reflex, though a good chuck of feats in the PHB are kinda weak.Ĭlasses are decently made for the most part, though half casters and Sorcerer suffer a bit thanks to some poor mechanics. I played 4e before and even a simple combat encounter can last for an hour. 5e is nice to play in actual Tabletop while 3e/PF works better as a video game.Īdvantage/Disadvantage helps speed up the game. How much dmg are we actually talking about?ĥe has a lot good points, but it also has a lot of bad ones. How are skill points exactly gained? How high can I reach with athletics?ĮDIT: also what exactly is proficiency bonus? Im talking shadow tamer and shadowweaver with their dmg bonus. It appears to be at least 3 cells?ĮDIT2: thief archetype gives 1 cell bonus Im curious if there is more to be gained this way?Ĭouldnt test how much jump spell is giving. Based on this my assumption is that 5th/6th point gives you 1 extra cell. Only dividor I can see is actual value of athletics. Its not acrobatics, as the one with highest cant. Doesnt seem to be affected by movement points, nor race height.īased on quick reading on dnd5 it was supposed to be based on str stat, but then I ruled it out as out of 2 characters with 18str only one could cross. Max jumping distance, how is it exactly calculated?ġst realization came when I noticed that various characters can/cant cross specific chasm. The game is good, but it has me grinding my teeth at times. Frequently misreads spells and other abilities by small amounts, gives magic items at completely nonsensical intervalls, adds retarded quests like the two where you are supposed to give really good magic swords away for peanuts in gold, his cool donut steele faction system does not work at all, but he gates all the cool stuff behind it since he put so much effort in. This DM means well but is high as a kite. I like NJClaw 's analogy of imagining all shortcoming off the game as failures of a DM. As soon as I had the feat I could cast the spell, and make four attacks per turn, since I had two bonus actions. But it leads to a really funny interaction with their feat, that allows you to make 1d4+STR bonus action attacks. IDK why, probably a holdout from the rogue feature they used for programming purposes. Expeditious retreat gives you two bonus actions for example. In general the game is riddled with small inconsistencies and bugs like that. The game is straight up easy now, and I am almost convinced that this weapon is a typo and it only meant to be a normal +2 Greataxe, since it is called Greataxe of Sharpness. My accuracy went up by +5 (25%), my damage went up by 10 per swing. So I went from 18 Strength and a normal nonmagical 2d6 Sword to 25 Strength and 1d12+1d10+2. But when I did my team was lvl 7 and I could buy the Belt of Fire Giant Strength aswell. That was in the place where you start escorting the elf mage chick, so it took me ages to actually craft the damn thing. And the component was a damn cheap crystal I could buy for 700 gp off the green faction. With this I *could* have crafted my first magical two handed weapon, a +1 +1d8 radiant Lightbringer Greatsword.īut the second item in the chest was a schematic for a +2 +1d10 lightning Greataxe. I found my first primed Greatswords and Greataxes. I hope it is randomly generated, it would be worse if this was hand placed.
